Brooke18,

Welcome to Save Haven. I think the 6 weeks after an abortion might be okay, but I am not sure of that. It did take me 3 years to become pregnant after my abortion and I didn't use protection. I thought that I would never become pregnant again. I worried for the whole 3 years as to, could the abortion left me unable to become pregnant again.

Hi Brooke,
I am not a doctor but I do care about your health. Have you been for a checkup following your abortion? This is a very important step in caring for your health and fertility. Please, please do that first before you consider another pregnancy.
Perhaps you are not aware of this but is a very common experience among women who have had abortions to strongly desire to be pregnant again. For some it can be nearly irrational. The difficulty this presents for some women is that they quickly become pregnant after an abortion without considering the many factors that brought them to the first decision. Sometimes this sets a woman up for a repeat abortion. I would suggest reflecting on what, other than having a one night stand, brought you to that decision. I would also suggest spending time reflecting on the future you would want to provide for your child. Do you have a home to raise a child? Do you dream of raising children within the framework of a stable marriage? What is your bf's mind on these things?
When a woman has another baby quickly after an abortion it is sometimes referred to as a replacement baby, as in a replacement for the baby lost ot abortion. In this situation the woman is likely not to have worked through the deep emotional/spiritual repercussions of the abortion. Many women who have found themselves in this position struggle to bond with their "replacement baby" It is not that she does not love her baby, it is more like bad reception on the radio. The love is there but it is interupted by some interferring emotional baggage. I am such a woman and it has been a livelong task to reconcile the relationshipw with my "replacement baby" son.
And, Brooke, worrying about infertility is also a common trait among women who have had abortions.
so my best advice is get your checkup, make certain you have healed physcially to set your mind at ease. Then take some time to heal emotionally/spiritually.
